Cliff Riviere’s paintings reflect his lifelong passion for both science and art. A retired biologist, he now devotes most of his time to cultivating his artistic technique. His work shows a clear understanding of the elements of painting, while still displaying a unique personal style.
He emigrated from the Caribbean to Canada in 1973, where he continued to develop his talent. He joined the Etobicoke Art Group, attended workshops, and enrolled in art courses. Through classes on art and spirituality at The Rudolph Steiner Centre in Thornhill, Ontario, he gained an understanding of Goethe’s theory of colour, which has given him a new perspective on the use of colour to express form. His preferred medium is oil, although he also works with acrylics, watercolour/gouache, pencil, and pastel.
Cliff is currently a member of both Visual Arts Mississauga and the Mississauga Art Society. |

Light is the basis of our connection to the world. It is the medium through which, in conjunction with our particular cultural influences, we form our concepts and perceptions.
The primary focus of my art is to create the sensation of light through the manipulation of colour and form. It is my aim to bring out the particular essence of the subjects that appeal to me. The process is transformational and hopefully, the finished work will evoke a spiritual resonance in the viewer. |
